Bike tour Bridges & Sculptures

Some of the bridges in The Hague are beautifully decorated with sculptures. But the fine details of this artwork and craftsmanship are easily overlooked by people rushing by on their way from A to B. So why not stop and have a better look? Who made these beautiful sculptures? What is the meaning of the images we see here?

On this bicycle tour we will visit several bridges, some well known to the residents of The Hague, some less known (but unjustly so). I will show you other sculptures made by the same artists, and tell you about their work. This bicycle tour leads us through beautiful and interesting parts of The Hague, both in and outside the centre. Along the route I will point out various other artworks in the public space.

Before we start our bicycle tour we will meet at a café near The Hague Central Station for an introduction to the theme. Then we will start our bicycle tour. En route we will make frequent stops to have a better look at bridges, sculptures and other artwork.

After about 1 ¾  hours there will be a lunch break of 1 hour. We will stop at Brasserie De Sierkan. The Brasserie has a small terrace, partly in the sun and partly shaded. You can either have lunch here, or spend this one hour break as you please.

After the lunch break we will continue our bicycle tour. After about 1 hour the tour will end at the starting point.

If you don’t bring your own bicycle, you can rent one:
– at Fietsverhuur/Rent-a-bike Den Haag Noordeinde 39
– at The Hague Central Station with a personal OV-chipcard (an “OV-fiets”)
